ABOUT THE ROLE

Scranton Shakespeare Festival is seeking a creative and resourceful Costume Designer for our Summer 2026 Season.

Our summer season operates in a repertory-style format within an intimate black box space. We work with lean budgets and fast turnarounds. We are looking for a designer who can create cohesive, character-driven costume worlds that support storytelling while working efficiently within financial and spatial constraints.

This role requires both strong artistic vision and practical execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with directors and producers to develop costume concepts

• Create renderings, costume plots, and tracking paperwork

• Source, pull, alter, build, or rent costumes within budget

• Manage fittings and coordinate with performers

• Oversee wardrobe organization and maintenance

• Develop quick-change strategies if needed

• Support load-in, tech, and strike

• Coordinate with stage management regarding costume tracking

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Experience in costume design for theatre

• Strong organizational and budgeting skills

• Comfortable working within limited budgets

• Skilled at sourcing creatively and adapting existing pieces

• Basic construction and alteration skills preferred

• Collaborative, clear communicator

• Available on-site in Scranton for the season

• Non-local applicants welcome. Housing provided for June and July
