HEATHERS

August 3, 4 and 5

The Marketplace at Steamtown - 300 Lackawanna Ave, Scranton, PA 18503

Book, Music and Lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy
Based on the film written by Daniel Waters

Heathers The Musical was originally directed Off-Broadway by Andy Fickman and choreographed by Marguerite Derricks.

Adapted from the 1989 cult classic film Heathers starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers the Musical: Teen Edition tells of the drama, 7/11 slushie rendezvous, and hell following social outsider and unsuspecting heroine Veronica Sawyer...how very. As she navigates the clique of her new plastic friends, the Heathers, stereotyped peers, unconcerned adults, and her new relationship with the mysterious and charismatic J.D., Westerberg High School is faced with the epidemics that are the teenage sociality and hierarchies. While J.D. goes on a crusade to cleanse the school of bullies and drama queens and drags her along with it, Veronica has to choose what she values more: popularity, "making Westerberg a better place," or following her own moral compass? This edition re-written specifically for students takes the campiness, humor, story, and music from the original Off-Broadway smash hit and turns it into an appropriate yet insightful performing arts experience for young artists.

Warning: This show is not suitable for children under the age of 13. This production contains content that could be triggering for audience members, including suicide, homicide, gun violence, sexual assault, fatphobia, homophobia, and relationship violence. Viewer discretion is advised.
